About Me

Sewing is therapy for me. I hoard fabric, patterns, notions, and spend more time shopping for fabric than I care to admit...

Have you ever?

Gone somewhere that you knew you'd be bored and you had to stay overnight?

That was me this past two days.  I had to travel from Sioux Falls to Chamberlain.  Never hear of it?

It is about 130 miles from home and I had meetings there two days in a row.  I stayed all night in a hotel that is on the edge of the 'city'.

There isn't much there--unless you love to hunt a fish but for little me, with no vehicle and darkness that approaches at 5:15 pm, I had NOTHING to do!

So, I loaded up my beloved Bernina 430 and a project and set to work.

My grandson, Simon, needs a new winter coat so grandma agreed to create one for him.  I am using orange and navy, much like the man's jacket shown, to create it for him.  He also LOVES the cartoon Paw Patrol, so I ordered some fleece with the puppies featured on it.

I started the jacket and I must say, I am quite smitten with this pattern and how professional it looks, even in my semi-constructed state!  It is some work, but making coats/jackets/multiple pieced patterns with many details is so stinking satisfying!!!

I am loving this pattern and thought I'd show you my set up in the room I stayed in for the night.

It worked!  I plan on using this pattern multiple times, I I traced off the pieces and kept the pattern piece and fabric together until I was ready to use it.

I am loving this project!  Have you ever taken your sewing machine to a hotel room and sewn?  Did it go well?  Do tell!

Sue :)

    1. Thanks Georgia! It does help if you are traveling alone. I don't think my husband would have liked it had I done this if he was along.

  4. I've never taken my machine with me to a hotel! But the picture of the sunset is stunning...looks wide open, beautiful.

    1. Oh it is wide open! This town has about 2,400 people. The 'larger' town is Mitchell which is 50 or so miles. And yes, it is rather beautiful!

  5. Yes, I have taken my sewing machine to a hotel, for the same reasons as you, nothing to do. I found it very productive since there were no interruptions. I'm sure the jacket will be loved. We have some Paw Patrol fans in my family too.
